Trap

Artist:
Cardi B
Label:
Atlantic Records

Bronx rapper, Cardi B, has just released her first full-length studio album titled, Invasion of Privacy, and I am honestly shocked with how much I enjoyed listening to it. This album comes in at 13 tracks in total, each feeling fresh and unique. It is apparent that Cardi poured all that she had into this album and let me tell you, it was all worth it. This isn’t just some half-assed trap album, this is an album filled with great beats, entertaining verses, and awesome features.

Lil Yachty's newest album Lil Boat 2 is probably what you imagine when you think of Lil Yachty. The album doesn't expand upon the popular rapper's repertoire. Auto-tune is heavy, the beats are repetitive, and the verses are mumble rap. This doesn't necessarily mean that I dislike Lil Boat 2 but it does get exhausting listening to what feels like the same song over and over again.

Migos - Quavo and Offset are both on this album and the beat of "TALK TO ME NICE" is just like something off of Culture

Lil Uzi Vert - Autotune singing and mumble rapping. A bit darker sounding than Uzi though

When two trap gods come together, you would expect a trap anthem right?

WRONG.

ZHU is back with a new single...maybe. I say this because it is nowhere to be found on Spotify or iTunes. When I searched for it on SoundCloud, a message popped up saying "maybe it has been removed." The only remnants of ZHU's illusive track, "Jet, the Doberman", yes that is what it's called, can be found on YouTube.

As a kickoff for his new tour, QUIX released a free-to-download single on SoundCloud titled "STORM." The intro of the song contains a mix of drones, alarms, and other sound effects to emulate a warning. Shortly after, risers and a frantic wobble bass begin to build tension that compliments the already panicked atmosphere. Then, with very little time to prepare, the bass drops. This portion of track does a good job making the square basses sound musical, instead of random; and a few off-kilter sound effects make the atmosphere more ominous. It could even be seen as otherworldly.

Keys N Krates is a Canadian electronic music group who have made waves in the electronic music scene with trap staples like Dum Dee Dum and I Just Can't Deny. They continue to develop their unique style within trap with the release of three singles from their new album Cura. These singles include Flute Loop (ft. Ouici), Do What U Do, and My Night (ft. 070 Shake). The first single, Flute Loop, opens with a very melodic marimba sounding loop that reminds me of XO TOUR Llif3. This leads directly into a very flute heavy trap style drop that goes very hard.

Hailing from the Netherlands, Dutch EDM artist San Holo has been gaining traction with his music for the past several years. I was fortunate enough to see him perform his hit single "Light" that has over 100 million streams on music platforms, at the 2017 GoldRush Festival in Chandler, Arizona. He is hype, a great festival performer, and an overall fantastic artist. His new single "One Thing" can be described as light, airy, and fun. The vocals on this song were well chosen, the woman's voice is hypnotic and draws in the audience.

After listening to this prepare to have the lyrics, " Too much xans, too much molly, too much money, too much body, no i.d., blocked my call, I throw money, watch it fall," replay in your head because it's very catchy. The song starts off sort of slow, but not really, and then it goes right into its beat drop. Once that beat drops your head will be moving along to the beat and it's hard to resist. It has a strong electronic vibe to it, but it's very good. The rapping skills of 24hrs fits well with the vibe of the entire song.

I will be the first to say, I am absolutely clueless when it comes to EDM. I only listen to mainstream EDM that every person on the planet knows of. Project Paradis's Paradis EP may simply be something that my brain cannot comprehend enough to appreciate. The description of the EP is wild, just like the music, which you can check out on Project Paradis's SoundCloud.
