(Synth Pop)

Artist:
Vitalic
Label:
Caroline Records

From low, high, bright, and dark, the album "Voyager" by Vitalic has all of the vibes you could imagine.  If you like diverse synth tunes and deeply energetic hits, this is an album for you.  It especially pertains to those who enjoy the electro house and synth pop genres.  This album has a track for every one of your playlists, it is very diverse.  The majority "Voyaer" and its vibe is happy and smooth, with other tracks that branch off with smooth and dark EDM tracks.  I have already recommended this album to friends of mine, a solid 8/10 rated

“Un Par de Lugares” is Mexican rock band Café Tacuba’s latest addition to their line of music, and rightfully so. Almost four years after their last album, this single gives Café Tacuba fans hope that their may be another album on the way! If you’re like me and have never heard of Café Tacuba, get out from under that rock you got yourself sitting pretty at.

Night Club - Requiem For Romance

This album is what i would describe as Dance Electronica. It has soft yet strong vocals and very dark synth sounds. I enjoyed this album the music and lyrics are really catchy. The beats on this album are great to dance to, and the lyrics are very PG-13 with most of them not including swear words, which is a good talent to have as a song writer.

SURVIVE RR7349

This album was by far one of the best albums i have heard all year. Especially because SURVIVE were the artists who created the intro song for the hit show 'Stranger Things'. This album has very strong sounds of dark synth and heavy eletronic beats. I listened to this album all week, I really enjoyed listening to it while going on walks or riding my bike. It definitely gets you in the zone when doing homework or studying for those midterms.

My Robot Friend is a one-man-band, fronted by none other than Howard Robot. Although it's one dude, it's also generally highly collaborative with a fair bit of performance art in there. I was a fan of MRF back in highschool more (more in my electro-pop days) with the album Dial 0, or more importantly the song 23 Minutes In Brussels (one of his more popular songs, certainly worth a listen). This album, however, got really boring for me starting at the 4th song, Creep.

Geographer

This was an ok album. I really like Geographer's older stuff and I must say this kind of fell short of that. This is way more drum/guitar centered than their older more synthy stuff. It also wasn't as upbeat. A few songs were decently good - the rest all just kind of blended together. Most had poor theme development, save for a few. Track 4 actually caught my attention though so play this song if you like 2010 Geographer. Sounds like something you'd hear playing at Urban Outfitters maybe, pretty boring stuff for the most part.

Go Wolf

Ooh La La Records

Go Wolf is a Belfast band that submerges their sound in an eighties groove, and gives a nod towards John Hughes movies as big influences to this EP. The first song off of this two track EP is called “One More Thing”, and sounds exactly like Miley Cyrus’ We Can’t Stop remixed with an eighties vibe. So much so that I actually thought I was listening to a cover of her song for the first 30 seconds. A downside to this track that should be noted is the clearly auto-tuned vocals, which take a lot away from the song.

Soft Vision is the first full album released by the Band, Soft Vision. If you have ever seen a John Hughes movie you know that this album comes straight out of The Breakfast Club. The husband-wife duo rely on dramatic 80s synth pop and Winchesters breathy voice to complete their post-80s image. It is a slower album but has a great flow as an entire album.

So I used to listen to Zero 7 when I was younger...I can't remember crap about them though, so I'm just going to go about this review like it's the first time I've ever heard them. Let's be honest, my memory is crap and it practically is the first time I've listened to them.

So this album was totally not what I expected. The synth-y beats that open every song kinda set up their music for light and airy vocals, but that’s not exactly what happens. Honestly I never would have put together these specific vocals and background music, but oddly it ends up working. The lead singer’s voice kind of reminds me of a musky Elton John and that’s something I’d picture with typical rock music. But the interesting pairing of vocals with synth pop is definitely something new and unique that I personally haven’t really heard before.
