Nu Metal

Look at Yourself is the deathcore band, Emmure's, most recent album which contains 13 songs. I don't believe I've ever heard any music from Emmure before so I tried to go in open minded and honestly i was pleasantly surprised because I wasnt' expecting to like this album but I enjoyed it. I like the instrumentals a lot because they combined typical metalcore along with a few sounds that reminded of something I would hear more in an EDM song which was interesting. Each song felt cohesive and also felt distinguishiable from each other.

These songs are the two singles, "Insane" and "Rotting In Vain", from Korn's newest album The Serenity of Suffering. Both songs are great and I would recommend anyone to listen to them since they're not what is really considered "heavy metal" and they don't really contain any screaming or many of the things that often offput people from the metal genre. It's more along the lines or hard rock or what is known as nu metal.

Following three years of teasing and touring and seven years without a new studio album, Illinois nu-metal band Dope is rearing their heads once again with a track off of their new, two-part album Blood Money called "Hold On." This track is a long-awaited return to the unique style of industrial nu-metal that Dope embodies. They also embrace a bit of a metalcore vibe with this new track, at least to my ears. The guitars and drums run triplets through the end of each chorus, and there is a lot of clean vocals.

Just like most King 810 songs, you get the nitty gritty vocals of David Gunn and the heavy heart pounding drums of Andrew Workman. If you get a chance, listen to the unedited version of this track because it makes the song even better. Rhythmic and heart pounding, Brahma is a great song to blast to your listeners. The lyrics are dark per usual and the vocals by David are just anguished and rough, something I have come to love. When I listen to King 810 I can hear the sincerity and pain in all of their music. Brahma is no exception.

Female fronted Otep released their 7th studio album Generation Doom and it’s amazing. I personally love female fronted metal bands because they usually bring a different perspective on the metal scene. Just because its female fronted doesn’t mean this album doesn’t shred or is purely clean vocals. Singer Otep Shamaya ranges from dark clean vocals to the growling, guttural vocals so many metal fans love. On to the songs, track 1 “Zero” needs to be cleaned and spun because it was amazing.

Once again, classic Deftones. The verses have a really complex rhythm, and choruses really showcase Chino's vocals. The lyrics also really prove just how he tends to paint pictures with his lyrics. The more I listen to it, the more I feel like this sounds like classic Deftones. I really feel like listening to White Pony now.

Let me preface this review by saying that I generally do not like metal, and I am not a fan of dubstep. With that said, it is a wonder that the fusion of these two genres somehow created an album that I ended up really liking. The dubstep really keeps you headbanging the whole way. I think it takes Korn’s music to another level. This album is hit or miss. You’ll know if you love it or hate it in the first few minutes. Korn fans may not like the album as much as their old ones.
