This record was a good listen, but at times the easy-listening feel of the record got boring. Not that it's bad by any means--however, the album did not have much variation and I don't think it did a good job of highlighting Krauss's versatility. It's still a classic country record though. If I found this album in my grandparents' records in between Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline I wouldn't be surprised. Krauss's voice is also flawless. She has one of the best voices in all of country music, and this didn't change on Windy City.

Jim James is one of the people who carried the American folk tradition into the 21st century. With projects like My Morning Jacket and the supergroup Monsters of Folk, it would be easy for him to rest on his laurels at this point. However, he has started a promising solo career, and his solo releases take his music in a new, exciting direction. Eternally Even is very psychedelic, but contains James's signature mellow-folk style.

Arbor Labor Union is a four piece band from Georgia whose first album under Sub Pop Records is titled "I Hear You". The album consists of nine tracks that all average out to be a solid five miniutes and forty-two seconds making well long road trips. The album consists of grungy, slow alternative rock with a little of the southern feel. It includes instrumental intros to every song with plenty of heavy drumming.

1. U Never Know (feat. Andreya Triana): The intro is suspenseful with a minimal beat and vocals then it gradually gets heavier with more drums.

2. Sum Body: This is a very mellow track and the drums are deep. It's a distinct, clear beat at first then everything sounds like its in the background. The faint bells in the background add this gloom to it.

the way this album starts--with a brief intro, a shout out to exile on production so you know it's gonna be chill, and the line: "i gave up and became a spotifier/ paying myself a fraction of a penny paying qualifiers"-- it already immerses you in this kind of heavy honesty in casual doses world.  the finesse with which open mike eagle can flow through emotionally loaded and sort of conflicted topics caricatures him as the kind of old rocking-chair guy who lays down facts of life between puffs of a pipe on a front porch.

If A$AP Rocky and Drake had a kid, it’d be Jon Waltz. He has Drake’s singing abilities and Rocky’s flow and style, except he likes to rap over chill beats instead of Rocky’s trap production, just try and hear me out! This project isn’t bad; College Girl and Video Girl are tracks that definitely should be played on the air. Jon Waltz is someone who shouldn’t be slept on. If you want to mellow out, put on some Jon Waltz, and let Waltz take care for the rest.

Perfect for the night owls out there. Really developing a nice mellow, hushed, sometimes haunting sound, Lyla Foy recently signed on with SubPop records after being recognized for her solo-released music under the name WALL. This her first full album is gentle, dreamy, mellow, and catchy without getting boring. Her chill dreamy vocals are restrained at first, as if they are an instrument of their own, not to say her voice can't stand alone. As the album goes on her vocals become more focused and are warm, reminding  me of Feist (6. No Secrets).

This album is as mellow as it gets. With tons of muted tons, some songs are filled with a sixties somber beach sort of vibe, while others have an ethereally calm tone highlighted with different instruments such as the tinkering of high pitched piano keys (See Me Right). Even their song, “Sunny Afternoon”, whose title and lyrics insinuate a day full of liveliness, the melody and mood of the song proves others (though it is a good song).

Chances are you’ve heard something exactly like Colours before. These sort-of-whiny and depressing emotional guy vocals are really played out at the moment. “Look at me! I’M SO SENSITIVE!!!” That’s what they seem to say as their songs preach of their quest for love. The vocals are big and range-y with softness as it builds up to that musical climax that every one of these songs have. That is another thing. The songs on this Skin and Bones EP are pretty much indistinguishable from each other.
