Alt rock

Self-described as "four guys making garage-punk in a former gay sauna by the canals of Amsterdam," St. Tropez is quite the interesting garage punk band. I can only imagine what spending a day in that former gay sauna is like which may be why there music is nearly maddening with the rough and powerful sounds they produce. While I'm typically not one to enjoy rough styles of alternative, St. Tropez's style isn't too violent to not be enjoyable.

Soraya Sebghati, Jacob Butler (guitar), and brothers Josh (bass) and Cris (drums) Arteaga make up Los Angeles alternative rock outfit Night Talks. In Dreams kicked off with this tasty treat titled 4×4. It was a spectacular song which left me completely captivated.

"2016" by Neutral Shirt is a great listen, especially if you're feeling a little sad and lonely. The songs embody a sweet sense of sadness and melancholy, while still being able to appreciate the beauty of life. All of the lyrics of simply poignant and hit all the right emotional notes. Neutral Shirt doesn't bring a new or interesting sound to the table, but they do bring a great execution of the sound they were going for. The vocalist sounds very similar to Diners, which is definitely a good thing.

This album fits it's title of “Integrity Blues”. All of the songs are kind of sad, and sound as if they are missing something that they used to have in their lives. I’m not a huge Jimmy Eat World fan, but i had to go back to their old songs to see if this is just how they always sound.

Remember in middle school when Kings of Leon released hits like "Sex is on Fire"? Well, they're still making music and they haven't changed too much from the sound they had back then. I wasn't too impressed with this album to be honest because it felt a bit haphazard in terms of style, one second I was listening to indie pop and the next second I was listening to country-based alternative. "Waste a Moment" is a fast-paced song that has instrumentals that are exciting enough to distract you from the weird lyrics of the song.

Oneiric is the newest album by Atlanta based alternative rock band Big Jesus. Each song combines walls of guitar driven noise with soft vocal delivery to create an ethereal, dream-like sensation. Big Jesus ultimately delivers an engaging pop-filtered version of 90’s shoegaze, albeit one that's only shallow.

Opus Orange has a put out a great album with Anatomic. The entire album has a very Phoenix/Passion Pit sound to it, blending together electronic and guitar sounds to create an even balance. Their lead singer has a voice that reminds me of Mark Foster from Foster the People, with the large range and crisp vocals. , Stylistically the songs also remind me of those by Foster the People, due to the vocals and the emphasis on the electronic backing.

If you are looking for emo punk/pop this is the album for you! This album reminds me of the middle school punk music that was big about 5-10 years ago. This album has the feel and lyrics like those of Panic! At the Disco, or even Sleeping with Sirens. Overall, it is a good album however it doesn't feel too unique, and doesn't have anything to differentiate it from other pop-punk/rock music.

The band People Who Could Fly is a local band out of Phoenix, who have opened for multiple nationally recognized musical acts over the past few years.  Their EP Neon Lights was released earlier this month, after being produced by Grammy winner Robb Vallier. This EP may only have three songs, but they are three super strong Alt Rock/Electronic songs that remind me of that of Young the Giant or even Walk the Moon.
