Symphonic Metal

This single was my first encounter of Igorrr. The song begins with operatic vocals over a soft guitar background. These operatic vocals quickly become pained screams followed by a glitchy dubstep breakdown. This breakdown was then followed by beautiful female operatic vocals followed by another breakdown. In this breakdown the male screams and female vocals go back and forth in an epic display of vocal diversity. This is then followed by a continuing dubstep like synth. This is truly an interesting track that spreads many genres of music. I'm truly not sure who to compare this to.

Sweden's Peter Tagtgren, owner of Abyss Studio and all-around well-versed musician and producer brings new sound to the stage with this September-release album, "Coming Home". The album is a melting pot of style, and each song has a unique spin to it that only Tagtgren is capable of. As someone who heavily influences the metal world in Sweden, and across the world, many had high hopes for the album and none were dissappointed.

Moonbathers is the latest album from Dutch symphonic metal band, Delain. It features a few songs off of their last EP, Lunar Prelude, such as "Suckerpunch" and "Turn the Lights Out". I reviewed Lunar Prelude and loved it so I was very excited to listen to MoonbathersMoonbathers does not disappoint and sounds very much like Lunar Prelude. The orchestral instrumentals are still fantastic and the vocalist, Charlotte Wessels, delivers haunting yet beautiful vocals.

Delain's 8 track EP, Lunar Prelude, features a female vocalist and a fusion of metal and orchestral instrumentals. This EP is absolutely beauitful, I loved every song and would recommend this EP to anyone, especially someone who isn't into the more typical genres of metal. Lunar Prelude has all the metal genre guitars but also infuses the typical orchestral instruments to create something that I had never previously heard.

With a cover looking derived from World of Warcraft, the musicians of Gloryhammer have created songs that truly reflects the artwork of the album. To my ears, this Scottish-Swiss power metal band created 10 theme songs for He-Man.  There's a storyline to the entire album. They chronicle through the legends of the Galactic Empire of Fife. The band members actually wear armour and have weapons when performing on stage. Crazy, intense awesome! When you feel your inner warrior coming out and the dark forces of the evil coming at you, pop this CD in and get your fight on!

Just to preface, I heard that this album was sweet before being given it to review, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. Ovid's Withering is a motley crew of death-metallers out of Tampa, FL who are obsessed with myth, fantasy, folklore, video games, and all things nerdy (as they put it) as well as brain-exploding metal.

With the genre of Metal, you never really know what to expect, but as a listener, you always listen hard for the heavy guitars, bass, and drums going crazy. However, Apocalyptica completely changes what anyone would expect. With the full sounds of cello, viola, and the upright bass mixed with the high singing sounds of the violin will give anyone and everyone who listens goosebumps. Honestly, anyone who listens to this album will put it on repeat and listen to it for a good 5 days straight before even thinking of listening to anything else.
