Hair Metal

The guys who make up Dark Sky Choir understand 80's metal. There is no question of their love of hard riffs, greasy hair, and chunky salsa, but when these superfans came together to forge their own metal band, all the ingredients for classic hard rocking metal are present but the dish lacks seasoning. The tracks blend chunky, clean, staccato guitar riffs with generic, uninspired metal lyrics.

This female-fronted Finnish hair metal band has been around since 2012 and Bringer of Pain is their lastest album.  "Familiar Hell" is catchy and fun, and raises an important question: is familiar hell better than unknown heaven? Unfortunately, it's not completely FCC clean but still a great song to listen to on your own. The other song, "King for a Day" is playable on the radio and deals with politicians and greed.

So I don't really think any of these songs need a review since they've been around for a hot minute now. Just a little background- Everybody Want's Some is a new movie set in the 80s about a group of baseball players in college. So surely shenanigans will ensue! But actually I love all these songs and grew up listening to them because of my dad's love for the 80s. Some highlights for you lazeballs: "Heart of Glass" yeah hi it's like one of the best Blondie songs, imho.

This album is glorious, it sounds power, electric, and downright badass. Honestly when I popped this CD in I thought I was listening to Dio or another band like that. It’s crazy good. It’s old school hair metal that gets you dancing, moshing and all the good metal moves.

Cauldron returns as a power trio with their second album, Chained to the Nite.  This album would be right at home in the 80s hair-metal genre.  While that style is somewhat of a parody these days, Cauldron capture its essense sublimely.  These guys would be signed to a major deal 25 years ago.  Hard-hitting riffs, double bass drumming, and lots of gread melodies abound.  Take it seriously, and you'll seriously like it.
