Kings & Thieves

Artist:
Geoff Tate
Label:
Inside Out, U.S.

Geoff Tate became famous due to his incredible vocal abilities in Queensryche, one of the founders of progressive metal. Although his singing is pronounced and crystal clear in Kings & Thieves, this album has nothing in common with progressive metal. This isn't metal at all; it's fairly generic and inoffensive hard rock. The best way I can describe this album is to mix Ozzy Osbourne's "Black Rain" with Buckcherry's "15."

This is a band with what sounds like Pink on vocals backed by a hard rock band with some dance sensibilities with a bit of black metal influence, which makes sense considering they're from Norway (the black metal part. Nothing else makes sense). The metal influence is unfortunately fairly low, especially on the tracks that are airable, but let down your pop-music guard and let a little in.
