Melodic Death

Inferi is tech death/melodic death metal band from Tennessee. I am reviewing two singles from their upcoming album Revenant. They have released 3 albums before this, and I honestly do not see why they do not have more of a following. They have been operating on bandcamp since 2007, and I believe they just recently got signed. I think that this album will be a turning point of their career and help them gain a larger fanbase. In their previous albums, you can often hear that they are bandcamp band; the other albums were very good, but the production was not always great.

At the Gates is a death core band from Gothenburg. Their new album is going to be released in a bit. I am reviewing the first 2 singles from said album.

With an album name To Drink From the Night Itself, I was expecting some good shit. Luckily, At the Gates delivers. These singles are good, heavy death core. They are kind of basic in terms of composition, but they are well executed.

This is a great melodic death metal album. If you like any kind of death metal, you will probably like this album. If you can’t stand death growls, you’ll probably hate it. It’s very fast and guitar driven with cool riffs. The album has an interesting cohesion due to several soft, acoustic mood changers. I thought this was a fantastic album and that almost every track was excellent. It only loses a star because none of the songs stood out much, and the album itself isn’t particularly novel. It’s still very good quality melo-death metal.

If you don't know The Black Dahlia Murder, well, that's not the craziest thing to say. These guys have a generally intense song, but the singer kind of sounds like the singer from In Flames at times, but not as good. They also have that "I'm singing from my throat and it's raspy and low" thing going a lot, which is fine, but they just swap between the two styles so interchangably it's odd. As far as their technical skills, TBDM are solid. The guitars are fast paced, intense, and totally brutal (to quote Austrian Death Machine).

2nd album from this reincarnation of the mighty Carcass. Well, the vocalist has a higher range, but the band can't decide to do Steve Vai melody metal or brutal death tuned way down. In Flames does it well, but in this album it goes from either death metal to a completely buff-rocky part. It's weird. Play if you have 2 people recommending Helloween and Cannibal Corpse.
