Punk Rock

CCTV are a band (supposedly) at the forefront of the underground Midwestern hardcore revival scene. Most of this music is pretty underground and DIY and spread in fame almost entirely due to notorious youtube channel Jimmy (RIP) who uploaded DIY punk released from all over the place. With most of the Midwestern underground scene currently  being composed of DEVO revivalists, CCTV take clear inspiration from the Minutemen instead.

PA-based hardore band Pissed Jeans put out an excellent record with Why Love Now. Punk releases can often be plagued by similar problems as genres like standard Indie Rock or Garage Rock, in that a vast majority of the music sounds very similar and there isn't a whole lot of things to distinguish bands from one another. Pissed Jeans manage to capture raw punk energy but play music that sounds oddly progressive for a genre that notoriously rejected any forms of complex or innovative songwriting or musical elements.

This record is one of the better punk releases of late. It seems like a lot of punk rock and garage rock records as of late are tending to all sound the same. This is one of the more rough sounding releases.  Meat Wave teamed up with Steve Albini, a legendary recording engineer, so I knew it had potential to be a good listen. It is a good edgy and angsty punk record. The front man Chris Sutter is definitely going through a lot emotionally and it is evident in his lyrics.

Sleater-Kinney is one of my all time favorite bands. I was overjoyed when they returned from their hiatus in 2015 with the album No Cities to Love, which did not disappoint. This new live album was recorded in Paris during the tour for that record. This live record really captures the energy of the bands live performances. There is no let down on these live tracks compared to the studio versions. The performance consists of songs spanning the entire bands carrer.

AFI was my secret guilty pleasure when I found their album in my parents things in elementary school. I wasn't around really for their early hardcore days, but fans of AFI who were will hear a yearning for those days in The Blood Album. In recent years AFI's release have become increasingly mainstream. I say this in the sense that the hard frenetic style that once made AFI popular was lost in the search for chart toppers.

With the tumultuous political atmosphere, I wouldn't be surprised at a revival of the riot grrrl movement of the 90s. Mary Bell embodies the spirit of those before them, tackling issues such as feminism and the toppling of the patriarchy. If you're a politically minded individual that is passionate about feminism, Mary Bell may be the band for you. Their name comes from the child murderer Mary Bell who was responsible for the deaths of two young boys. If that doesn't give you an idea of what the band is about, I don't know if you'll ever get it.

Tenesse-based noise rock outfit Nots certainly impress on their album Cosmetic. The album is full of super fun and super punky songs. The whole album is pretty upbeat. The shouts of vocalist Natalie Hoffman pair well with the noisy, sometimes post-punky keyboards and guitars. The album is energetic as fuck, and most of the songs give off the vibe of music that would be hella fun to mosh to. Overall it's a great listen for ayone who enjoys punk rock and wants to play song upbeat, hype shit on their radio show.

A Moderately good album with all the standard greenday goodness

is about how life is not quite what it should be

A hidden Midlife crisis

A confession to murder

A scream for times past

A beleif that they are still as immortal as they were in their youth

Not really able to be explained in any way thats not terse.

Unsettlingly sweet, This album is catchy will make you sing with it and will generally be really awesome, and it has this cool kidlike atmosphere and will come off like this at first listen, and it will be less annoying , and im just trying to get you to understand;

it has a false innocence

The albums actual lyrics will Fuck your mind something graphic, Its false innocence really messes with you when you realise shes singing about killing, haaving sex, giving into peer pressure, and general societal failures from the individuals view.
