I'm a big fan of Earth, only having a passing familiarity with The Bug, but from my point of view this album is a little boring. That isn't to say it's bad though, and the title Concrete Desert does a good job explaining the appeal. This music is slow, sprawling, and desolate.

Love Stream, Tim Hecker’s, newest album, is a solid 35 minutes of drone-y ambient fun. Are you in the mood to listen to some light and airy tones that will get you thinking about the metaphysical nature of reality? Are you ready to finally pump out that philosophy paper? Are you in the mood to really ~feel~? Boy, have I got the album for you. Hecker strays away from his darker and hazier style with his newest album. Love Stream is much more light and airy.

Stimulus Regression is really top-notch ambience, and what struck me most about it was its variation. The album shifts from ethereal and floating to dissonant and haunting, and back again, giving it excellent emotional variety. The bane of ambient music is people’s attention spans – it’s hard to make music that’s slow moving but not boring – but I think this album pulled it off.

Face Always Toward The Sun is a bright, ethereal ambient album consisting of pretty songs that flow brilliantly in and out of each other. Mixing (what sound to be) tape loops with strings and a wide array of effects, the album is a fairly complex while notably lo-fi ambient piece with consistent quality.

So over the past year, Philly shoegaze band Nothing has been gathering up some buzz, and this March, released their debut album. It's always a question with buzz bands (WORST TERM): will it be super good? Did they earn the buzz? Did we talk them up too much? Do they actually make super shitty music? Answer for Nothing: NOPE. This album rules. This band live rules. Bringing shoegaze outta the gates and giving it a punk/metal edge. I say metal because they look like metal dudes and this record came out on Relapse Records....a metal label.

There's not too much info out there on Woodsman, so the music speaks for itself. This record is 37 minutes of sheer bliss. It's a calming, yet fast paced droning psychedelic trip. It's music to space out and get lost in. At times it's driving and almost abrasive; at others it's mellow and dreamy. It sounds like everything, yet nothing at all at the same time. Sometimes it sounds like Alison's Halo and sometimes it sounds like Lightning Bolt. It's interesting. It's a nice trip that you need to experience to understand.

This is an instrumental, post-metal album that absolutely kicks ass. It progresses in a very cool way, so really it's best when you hear the whole thing all the way through. But even individually, the songs are cool. They can get pretty heavy, so if you're more of an acoustic kinda guy this isn't that. It does have kind of an emotional impact, still. I highly recommend to anyone who likes rock, metal, post-metal, etc.

The Sonic Youth takes another crack at a movie soundtrack! This is for the french thriller movie, "Lights Out." Think about it: narrow hallways, dusty, dark rooms, one really dim candle... that' the atmosphere this music creates. At times, the songs have a menacing tone but consistent direction (7,9), but almost always, they dissolve into a myriad of scraping/scary,etc. kinds of noises that people will hate you for playing on the radio (ex. 1,2,6)... that's not to say to avoid this album! Christ, it's the Sonic Youth. You probably picked it up because of their name.
