"Having Everything Revealed" is what the the acronym of R&B artist H.E.R. stands for, and rightfully so. One of the most striking features of H.E.R. is that her identity is shrouded in mystery, with her appearance being completely unknown, as she wants to be only represented by her music and not by how she looks for what she is wearing. Her second EP H.E.R., Vol.

Chanel by Frank Ocean is the second unexpected single after Slide with Migos and Calvin Harris. Chanel is a really dreamy song with a dark undertone. Ever since Frank Ocean became a hit phenomena with OFWGKTA, many people were interested in his sexuality due to his ambiguous lyrics (why anyone cared though I'm not sure).  A lot of people have given this song praise for Frank finally talking first hand about a boyfriend or a non-binary relationship. Putting politics aside, this song is really cool.

You have may have heard him on his collaborations with Drake's Nothing Was the Same, or on the last track "Saint Pablo" off of Kanye West's excellent The Life of Pablo, or even more recently on "Don't Touch My Hair" by Solange. Sampha Sisay's (simply known as Sampha) has been widely recognized by an array up popular artists, and has been floating around the R&B spectrum of music since 2010, releasing two excellent EP's and a few promotional singles within that period of time.

"H.E.R. Volume 1" is the first EP from H.E.R. and it's seven tracks of r&b nostalgia. Samples from some classic r&b songs like Aliyah's At Your Best and Floetry's Say Yes are on the record. A cover of Drake's "Jungle" is also on the record so overall I think the choices in music influence are solid and safe. H.E.R. doesn't curse on this album; all of the original songs on the album are clean. The only song that is explicit is the Drake cover.

Alongside hip-hop heavyweights Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q, an extremely underrated female artist by the name of SZA happens to be signed to independent label Top Dawg Entertainment. Somewhere along the lines of neo-soul, alternative R&B, and even hip-hop, Solana Rowe AKA SZA is a very talented young lady who has released 3 excellent EP's, with a studio album titled CTRL which can be released at any given moment. As a huge fan of her work, I was extremely excited when SZA dropped a new single out of the blue.

At 20 years old, upcoming hip-hop artist Roy Wood$ has a brighter future than most students who are currently in school (no shade being thrown, just facts). One of the few lucky gentlemen to be signed to OVO Sound, co-founded by the one and only Drake, Wood$ has found moderate success with his previous debut EP Exis. With his 2016 debut album Waking at Dawn.

Gallant is a singer-songwriter who has recently found great success with the release of his new album, Ology. What really launched his popularity as an artist was a single off of the album, "Weight in Gold". This song has been used in many advertisements, was widely loved and remixed by many big names on Soundcloud, and ultimately got his name out there. While "Weight in Gold" is amazing, it only offers a peak into this amazing album. Gallant's take on R&B is new and fresh. Each song is both very spacious and full.

The Weeknd is pretty consistantly good/amazing so I may be biased, but I did enjoy this single. Catchy opening with his emotionally passoniate lyrics. It's been used in the promotion/trailers for that upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie so if you're looking to get in the mood in that kind of way this is pretty sensual. Of course he's had better songs out before, but this has been hyped and has almost as many listens as his last single Often so I guess other people are digging it too. Cool.
