Talent Night at the Ashram

Artist:
Sonny & The Sunsets
Label:
Polyvinyl

Talent Night at the Ashram is a wonderful album. (I meant to make that sentence longer, but nothing fit). From its beachy and sunny vibes, to Pet Sounds (by the Beach Boys for those who might not know) -like harmonies, this album is just wonderful. I am transported to another place when I listen to this album. To the beach? Probably. Back in time? Maybe. But I know it takes me somewhere, somewhere relaxing and sunny and happy.

Forgiveness Rock Record

Artist:
Broken Social Scene
Label:
Arts & Crafts

In the five years since Toronto's Broken Social Scene released their self-titled album, things sure have changed in the music world. In the wake of that album's release, we've seen an explosion of sorts of the Canadian music scene as a whole, some of which owe a debt to BSS. We've also seen key members of BSS break out into their own (Kevin Drew/Brendan Canning's solo albums, Feist, Stars, Reverie Sound Revue, the list goes on...). Some even wondered after the release of 2005's BSS, if the band would record another album ever again (they almost didn't).

Life is Sweet! Nice to Meet You

Artist:
Lightspeed Champion
Label:
Domino

Devonté Hynes or Lightspeed Champion is a 23-year old Brit who makes his living crafting beautiful music. This hipster looking singer/songwriter sure knows how to rock different instruments, as he displays a variety of stringed instruments, piano, keyboard and of course the guitar. Lightspeed Champion's wonderfully articulated music is sure to put any person in a good mood. Songs like There's Nothing Underwater embody a melodic grace yet on the other side Faculty of Fears bops to an upbeat bass tone, with violins creating a orchestra style sound... but totally badass.
