Illusions of Grandeur

Artist:
Evocation
Label:
Century Media

Illusions of Grandeur is your standard, Swedish Death Metal. It’s EXTREMELY riff-based, so the songs that work are those with awesome riffs. As a whole, the album has almost no cohesion. The songs are all very similar, but they’re also all decent. Only a few of them really stuck out to me. Nothing in this is particularly interesting, but check out a song or two if you don’t mind cookie monster vocals.

It Was Predestined EP

Artist:
MaelstroM
Label:
Itchy Metal Records

This EP contains one of the most unique blends of death and thrash metal that I've ever heard. The closest I could come to describing Maelstrom's sound would be to combine ('80s) Metallica and Animist. There's often a lot going on at once, but I don't think it ever descends into a clusterfuck. Instead, the business of the songs highlights the dark and epic atmosphere of the lyrics. I highly recommend this if you like thrash.

Torture

Artist:
Cannibal Corpse
Label:
MetalBlade

For those of yo uwho are more familiar with Cannibal Corpse than me, you could probably write a better review, but as it stands, this CD is Fucking EPIC!!  It has fast pased songs (given) and epic riffs.  The epic riffs are pretty well contained in track 5, but the whole album is pretty intense and in your face.  The vocals are typical Cannibal Corpse, pretty quick and difficult to understand, but befitting of the musical style they employ.

Worship Destruction

Artist:
Nekrofilth
Label:
Unsigned

Nekrofilth is very angry.  They have no songs airable on the radio.  Possibly one of them, but most likely not and since I can't find the lyrics, we're going with none.  Anywho, these guys are intense from end to end.  The sound is similar to Nadiwrath or at times Psycho (in studio now as well), but with a more coherent "FUCK YOU" throughout the songs.  If intense almost thrash style punk death metal is your cup of tea, Nekrofilth is all for you.  I would reccomend this CD to anyone looking for a different metal cd with some strong guitars.

The Sound of Pereverance

Artist:
Death
Label:
Nuclear Blast/Relapse

This is a re-release of Death's Final CD. Chuck Schuldiner went on to do a CD with a side project band called Control Denied which musically has similarities to Death but not as intense. This CD is epic. The tempo changes can be rapid and confusing to the untrained ear but they are right on spot. Chuck's voice never loses it's uniquity. The demo's included on the 2nd disk are rare and were only released with this reissuing of the CD. It's cool to hear what the band sounded like without all the studio edits.

Let The Devil In

Artist:
Sargeist
Label:
Moribund Records

Listening to Pagan Death Metal has been a new experience for me. This is Sargeist's album "Let The Devil In," this is their first full length album in five years. The composition of the band in pretty standard Death Metal really heavy and distorted riffs and guitar pieces. The vocals sound as if a demon with a raspy voice is screaming to you, which is pretty cool. The only real problem I have with this album is that if you've heard the first song, then you've heard them all. The constant similar sounding songs makes it hard to appreciated album.

Until We Are Outnumbered

Artist:
The Kandidate
Label:
Napalm Records

"Until We Are Outnumbered" is The Kandidate's 2010 album release. This album is pretty legit. Its has a lot thrash and pounding sound to it and makes you feel like you just want to destroy something. "Distress and Decay" is the song that you would play if your destroying the world and causing chaos, the song itself it pretty chaotic. "Shut 'Em Up" is probably the best song on this album. Its has a really fast thrashing shredding feel to it, and progresses to get more heavier towards the end of it. This is a pretty solid hardcore and thrash album.

Requiem For the Inexorable

Artist:
Maleblogia
Label:
Comatose Music

This record takes you to hell and not back. The blast beat drumming is intense and constant thruout the record with exception to the harmonies and breakdowns. Its heavy as hell and sounds like Kataklysms bass asault and death vocals to make you wish you were in hell to see them live in concert. Play the CD at your own risk because you may break something besides your own fist...but Hell yeah, who cares. Pain is essential to glory right. Check it out.
