Superchunk is a band that has been around for a long 30 years and in those 30 years, they have released 11 full length albums. “What a Time to be Alive” being their latest release and what a time to be alive indeed. A couple years ago, the band had released a few albums (one in 2010 and another in 2013) that have been not so successful. Thankfully they didn’t give up and went on to release this beauty. It features guest appearances from Stephin Merritt, David Baza, Skylar Gudasz, Sabrina Ellis, and Kate Crutchfield.

Fiddlehead is a side project from Basement’s guitarist Alex Henery. The band hailing from Boston recently released their first full length album, “Springtime and Blind”. They are signed to Run For Cover Records, which is one of my favorite labels, with bands like Pinegrove and Camp Cope in their arsenal. This album was solid, but it just felt like an underwhelming Basement album. Both have similarly sounding lead singers, and sonically are very similar with their layered guitars and punchy bass.

Teen Suicide may be under a new name, American Pleasure Club, but the band has reached a new high in my opinion. American Pleasure Club's "A Whole Fucking Lifetime of This" is a well put together album that still has such a variety of genres. I cannot emphasize how much I love this album! The album starts off with the acoustic, lo-fi song "florida (voicemail)". The song is delicate and true as you hear Sam Ray's quiet vocals over the guitar.

Female lead pop-punk outfit The Regrettes released a single for their upcoming EP, Attention Seeker, called “Come Through”. I love this song. It’s short, concise, and catchy. The punchy bass and sweet harmonies on this track make it a treat for the listener. Lead singer Lydia Night is charismatic and grabs the attention of the audience. Really good single that has me excited for this upcoming EP.

San Diego based surf-punk band The Frights were one of the many artists that released music on Valentine’s Day. If you are familiar with the Frights, then you won’t be surprised that this single is titled “Valentine’s Sux”. The track features the bands cheeky lyricism and catchy surf-punk tune as an anti-Valentine’s Day anthem. Brutally honest and with a sense of playful melancholy, “Valentine’s Sux” is about spending the titular holiday without ones significant other.

Weddings and Funerals is the sophomore album from The Kickback. Even though it is disticntly a breakup record, the listener is not bored by the expected lamentations about loss. The tracks are still lively and I found myself drumming my fingers on my steering wheel to the instrumetals. Each song is quite eccentric, and the tracks mix it up between the chorus and the bridge, which definitely keeps the listener interested.

The Front Bottoms are back with a new album and it's exciting. If you like one of the songs, you'll probably like them all since they have a similar style. It's very pop punk, singing about how much they hate everyone and putting up the middle finger to people. However, it's not as high-energy as a lot of pop punk music. The songs are a lot slower and more laid back, but still fun.

A lot of magazines who reviewed this album said it was FiR's saving grace. A lot of magazines said it is the best album that FiR has put out since their first album. With all that being said, I am utterly amazed at what I listened to. FiR went from a metalcore band to the Ronnie Radke pop synth show. This isn't metal, nor is it good. The instrumentals are overpowering and bland. Ever since Falling in Reverse lost their prime guitarist, the music has faltered. This album, in my opinion, is the worst album Falling in Reverse has put out.
