Electronic Rock

The English rock bands fifth studio album is a great overall album including plenty of anthems that most could blast in their car or are trying to feel hyped up. The album offers a mix of what seems to be songs showcasing the lead singer, Roughton Reynolds, who had claimed to be suffering from anxiety also during the making of the album, the artists used their frustration from the Brexit and Donald Trump as inspiration for the album. Their use of both electric rock and synth mixes well.

This is definitely not a conventional album and I am not sure how I feel about that.

There is a difference between substance and exploiting the current political strife as a central theme in an incredibly hollow, lackluster song. Arcade Fire's newest single, "I Give You Power," is a shining example of this difference. I am a long time Arcade Fire fan. They were probably the first band that I truly fell in love with. The band has a special place in my heart and always will. That being said, I am incredibly disappointed in the lack of musical talent put forth into "I Give You Power."

Jimkata is a really good electronic rock band that somehow went under the radar. Based off the Planetary summary, I was expecting another run-of-the-mill pop band that had a few decent instrumentals mixed in with some vocals from a guy with an awkwardly high voice. Luckily, I was wrong. It felt like the summary was struggling to find ways to make this album appealing but actually there's a lot to say. In Motion doesn't fall short of its praise.

Ratatat’s newest album, Magnifique, came out over summer but you should definitely play it once a show because it is just that good. Known for their guitar driven electronic rock sound, Mike Stroud and Evan Mast take their experimental baroque-esque sound to a whole new level with extremely clean beats layered on top of melodies headed by a pedal steel guitar (The title song “Magnifique” is a great example of this, one of the slower dreamy songs.)

Neo Geo's album instantly reminded me of Paramore. The singer does not have Hayley William's voice but she still has a great voice that is very similar. Some of the songs start off very electronic sounding, like "One Way Ticket" and a few others. There are very upbeat songs and some slower ones like "Marionette". If you like kind of angsty songs that can be deep, electronic, or poppy you would probably like this album. Also, if you like Paramore you would probably ike this album.
