Acoustic Indie Pop

Running on the Edge

Artist:
Auto Defiance
Label:
Underground Mass Media Music

They have a great sound, very catchy with piano ballads as well as short rockin riffs and simple but fun drum beats. Their sound is pretty fun and catchy. Their music is good with the only exception of the lead vocals voice. It doesn't seam to fit in with the type of music they are playing. The girl on keyboards sings back up vocals and does a great job. They have a good sound with the exception of the singer. Their sound is really indie pop rock and reminds me of matchbox twenty mixed with the Lumineers. Give a listen and see what you think! overall a good sound.

Long Live The King

Artist:
The Decemberists
Label:
Capitol

Great Band. Great Album. The Decemberists are an authentic folk rock/indie band from Portland. They are the kind of band that will play upbeat pop to instrumental ballads. This album consists of more ballads, but the album is true Decemberists, primary instrument being guitar; and smooth, serene melodies.

E. Watson - ***** (a classic folk story based guitar song)

Foregone - ***** (more of a bluesy/rock folk song)

Burying Davy - ***** (darker sounding)

I4U & U4ME - **** (upbeat)

Hunger and Thirst

Artist:
Typhoon
Label:
Tender Loving Empire

There are 7 core members of this band, and 17 total contributers from Portland Oregon. They all live within walking distance from each other, and their average is 21.8. I really enjoyed this album! They are very very mellow, and acoustic. They utilizing lots of harmonies, and obviously a lot of different sounds since they have so many members. But their album is still simple and minimalistic. Their songs have interesting structure. I dig them.

180 South Original Soundtrack

Artist:
Various
Label:
Brushfire Records

The original soundtarck to 180 Degrees South, the movie follows an adventurer as he explores to outdoors. So the soundtrack is very folky, outdoorsy, chill. I really enjoyed this album. Spin this if you just want some really chill, plesant music. It will be a good song to end a show with perhaps. Quality.

Outbreaks

Artist:
Turin Breaks
Label:
Cooking Vinyl

Turin Breaks has been a significant presence near the top of the UK charts, and this record is a perfect example as to why.  These guys have a great sound.  Their voices mix well together and the guitars give off a reflective, calming tone.  The lyrics within their songs are deep.  Turin Breaks has the whole package that you would want in an indie-alternative band.  The acoustic movement the band utilizes on this album works well.  It has that quality of taking you off on a journey, envisioning a road trip across the countryside, ending the night around a campf

We Built a Fire

Artist:
Seabear
Label:
Morr Music

Spin this!!! A very well put together album; I like almost every song. These guys are from Iceland, so of course their music all have a very "pretty: feel to it. Unlike Sigur Ros, they mostly sing in English and they have a more concrete feel, less dreamlike. Their melodies, harmonies and various instruments meld together seamlessly to create very pleasant pieces. But they balance that with elements in their songs that make you feel rushed, or hurried but still a very chill album. Quality.

the Desert of Shallow Effects

Artist:
Miles Kurosky
Label:
Major Domo

Two years after the breakup of Beulah in 2004, frontman Miles Kurosky began work on what would eventually become his solo debut. Over the course of three years, production on this album would slowly continue to evolve, until of course, it eventually became the final product, "the Desert of Shallow Effects."
