À Jamais Privé de Réponses is the debut full length album from French-Canadian New Wave group, Paupière. This album greets two singles and an EP in Paupière's discography, and I have to say, I like it. Paupière pushes past the mere novelty of it's foreign language pop group origins into a uniquely fun listen.

Camille Dalmais is a French singer with radiating vocals and a clattering, layered style. “OUÏ” is in both French and English with a heavier emphasis on the former, using English mostly as sample or as jarring introduction.

The beats and sounds throughout the album sounded like the matrix or attempting to quickly leave a building with long halls and for some reason only taking the stairs. It features repetitive drums with some synths running over and under each song, that pulse and has a slight industrial feel to them.

Balval is a folk/alternative group from France. It is difficult to categorize them because they are more than just folk and alternative, they have a unique quality that makes their music difficult to define, but it is very cool. It is a very laid back and chill album. Electric guitar, bass, violin, and both French & English lyrics can be heard throughout the entire album. Be sure to give this band a shot, good coffee shop type music.

We don’t get a whole lot of lounge-esque music these days, but what we’ve received (that I’ve heard and reviewed) has been borderline disappointing and often hilarious.  I was pleasantly surprised to find this album to stand out from my previous experiences.
