At a first glance, the album cover says a lot about this trio of rappers based out of Federal Way, Washington, as Lose Sight of the Shore is “shore”-ly a sound that captivates what seemingly is fleeting in this day and age with rap and hip-hop. For one, I saw this album in our hip-hop collection and, needless to say, I have been bumping this 9-track album for about the last two weeks I’ve had it on my person (sorry Mr. Trujillo). New Track City is comprised of the brother-rapper duo of Bem and Chi.

Going into the album, I had high expectations based off the album art alone. The album itself is relatively short spanning six tracks, two of which are more conceptual and mostly feature people talking. The music on the album is very R&B influenced.

This is an album that is definately meant to be played in it's origional sequence; filled with interludes and sounds under a minute long (6 out of the 18 tracks). The short songs filled with static, tv noise, and artificial inteligence voices give it that Childish Gambino - "Because the Internet" sound. There are absolutely no bangers on this album! Endless is full of "chill kickback," and "cry by myself at home" tracks.

The Blazing Rays of the Sun
Label:
City State

Apart from a cool name, The Blazing Rays of the Sun brings relaxed, ambient music and heartfelt lyrics to the table. The name, "Young Love", sums up the EP's theme pretty well; a young band singing about love. Each track details love lost, love found, mistakes made, or hopes for the future. The vocals are very soft with long drawn out notes. It was a bit unsettling at first but it goes with the mood of the instrumentals well. The songs all follow a basic structure of starting off soft then picking up to a strong but still melodious tune by the end of the track.

Erykah Badu

Self-released

Erykah Badu decided to do a remix of Drake's Hotline Bling, in which she puts a female spin on the original track. Badu's soft, candy-sweet voice and addition of some nice background vocals and chimes at the end of the song is a nice, filled-out contrast to Drake's version. The catchy beat from Drake's hit is still on this track, but the lyrics have changed. Badu says, "You used to call me on my cellular device at night," instead of Drake's, "You used to call me on my cell phone" line, which is a humorous twist.

Until the Ribbon Breaks

Kobalt Music

Ayyy this is one chill deep vibe-y album. If the Black Keys were chilled for 20-30 minutes in a refrigerator and served with a side of R&B you could probably call it Until the Ribbon Breaks. Being only five songs, this album is pretty short, but really solid. The vocals are deep, calm, and smooth as butter. Of the five songs, three are covers. And amazing covers they are. So remember that Robert Palmer song, "Addicted to Love"? Well in my opinion Until the Ribbon Breaks, makes that song a million times better. It's slowed down and just really great.

Childish Gambino is. so. good.  This album has potential to top anything he has done.  These two singles alone show the insane level of talent he has.  The first song is melodic and has a great R&B vibe while the second is such a jam I can't even believe it.  He brings something to the table for everyone and that is so impressive.  The first song shows a slightly different side of him and I think it's great he can mix it up like that.  The second song has his signature clever flows and unbeatable beat and a hook that really.. hooks you.

Joel Compass has smooth vocals that sound similar to Drake and lyrics acompanied by beats that remind me of Calvin Harris. His EP 'Astronaut ' influences Compass' wide range variety of musical talent and passion. The 4 track EP is a fabulous beginning to start Compass' rise to the top. The London native has leaked single after single and promised an EP, now fans must await the release of a hopeful album to come soon. Compass' is a mix of R&B, RPM beats, and Alternative.

MØ is actually a Danish girl named Karen Marie Østed. She kicks ass, and yes, she sings in English. She would be Lana Del Rey if Lana Del Rey wasn't trying to be Nancy Sinatra. "Pilgrim" is her first single, but personally, I prefer the second track, "Maiden". Either way, play one of the two. She is definitely one to watch.
