Sports BlogNate: These penalties are absolutely killing us... Spencer: An offensive Pass Interference and a False Start led to a 3rd and 25, and after an incomplete Arizona P Keenyn Crier shanks his second punt of the day. Cal takes over with good field position and with the help of some more Arizona penalties, the offense is moving downthe field again. Well it's 6:17 to go in the 1st quarter and Cal is 14 yards away from making this a 21-3 ballgame, Arizona needs to find a way to slow down this Cal Offense now if they want to even think about a comeback, offense needs to perform as well. Nate:Cal punches in a 1 yd run by Jahvid Best....Arizona cant stop anything. I dont know what their gameplan was, but Mark Stoops needs to change his strategy quickly..I mean Arizona has given up 21 points and we arent even done with the first quarter! Cal answers Arizona's score with another TD. Long shore pretty much through his entire way for his drive, finding Lavelle Hawkins in the endzone. Nate: Longshore looks like he is going to carve this Arizona secondary apart today. The biggest mismatch that Cal is starting to capitalize on, is when Deshaun Jackson is not matched up with Cason. The linebackers and secondary need to get their act together quickly if they want to stay in the ballgame. Spencer: The Defense right now can not handle Cal's dual threat Offense. It will get real ugly if this continues. Arizona's second drive has looked very impressive on both the ground and in the air. After reaching the red zone, Arizona failed to get a first down and K Jason Bondzio's 31 yard attempt nailed the inside of the left upright but was still good. Spencer: You should get five points for a field goal that hits the bar and goes in, enough said. Nate: I totally agree haha. I'm interested to see if Arizona gets Rob Gronkowski involved. Arizona's secondary on defense is missing their assignments all over the place. They aren't covering their zones very well except Cason. Nate: After a tough first drive for the Cats, the first punt of the day was a shank that "sailed" 10 yds. Cal now has great field position at the 50 yard line. One their first play of the drive. QB Nate Longshore hits Lavelle Hawkins for a gain of 27. Spencer Smith: Arizona's secondary cannot afford to break down this early, it's going to be a long day regardless for Arizona's defense, and allowing a TD early will not make things any easier. On 2nd and 10, Forsett runs for a firstdown. Next play on 1st and 10, Forsett takes it in for a touchdown. Spencer: (Sigh). This defense has done a pretty good job this year stopping the run, but they haven't seen an opponent of Forsett's caliber either. It's 3:30 into the game and the Cal senior has already run for 27 with a touchdown. Nate: Tuitama needs to get the ball out of his hands as quick as possible in order to relieve pressure...Its interesting to that Grigsby got to start the game. Arizona is starting to click offensively. California has won the toss and elected to recieve. Lavelle Hawkins returns to the 23-yard line where the Bears begin their drive. The drive ends with a three and out, they will punt to Arizona Spencer Smith: Good Afternoon Cats fans, Nate and I are in the comfy confines of the Memorial Stadium Press Box,watching the teams work out to some sweet hip hop. Kickoff is scheduled for just under a half hour. Should be an interesting match up today, as Arizona's struggling defense looks to try to bring back their prestege from last year. If they plan to do that, they are going to have to do it against one of the best offenses in the country featuring Pac-10 rush leader Justin Forsett and their remarkable trio of recievers in DeSean Jackson, Lavelle Hawkins, and Robert Jordan Nate Namberts: Well good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Im excited to be here in the booth with Spencer bringing you the game today. First of all, Arizona needs to put pressure on Nate Longshore in order to create turnovers. I really believe that in order to be a successful defense, Arizona needs to start putting pressure up front on defense. I look forward to seeing if Arizona can confuse Longshore by bringing alot of different blitz packages and multiple formations. Spencer Smith: Expect Arizona to have little trouble getting on the board today. Ever since the BYU debacle, Willie Tuitama has put up impressive numbers (minues the fumble and safety last week). Cal's defensive unit has given up plenty of yards to their opponents this season, but if there is one thing that they do really well, it's create turnovers (they have forced six on the season). Lastly, Arizona better be careful on their special teams play today. California Heisman candidate DeSean Jackson has returned nearly 20% of his career punt returns for touchdowns, which includes a 95 yard return last year at Arizona Stadium. Ok, 6 minutes till kickoff, we'll catch you soon when we up date next. KAMP Sports Blog, the best blog ever created. |
