Disco Music? Oh so dirty electroclash... just google images this guy. He looks... eh.  This is the side project of Sean Tilmann (of Sean Na Na) and he's pretty popular in the UK-- not really here in America, his home country. His lyrics are pretty lewd, but pretty entertaining. He wants to taste your applesauce, be your lover, stay in and play games and get wasted... this is good club music, maybe not for the radio-- but worth a rip to your hard drive.

Canada (Montreal, specifically) strikes again, leaving us with these folks who have the motto "from quiet to medium in 7 minutes" on their myspace. Super mellow man and woman sing softly over bending, sliding, hammer-onning, pull-offing guitars. The somewhat engaging, technical guitar work seems to be the focus of the music-- at points, the singing/music dynamic is akin to early Modest Mouse, with droney guitar and intense (but quiet) vocals. Often ghostly and psychedelic, it would fit well in a mellow spot between your bumpin' tracks.

Xiu Xiu's seventh album is surprisingly rhythmic while remaining its bizarre goth-rock sound. Jamie Stewart warbles like the vampire musical man from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and does it with such intensity-- he cries at almost every one of his live shows. Trust me, it's bizarre. Meshing fragmented electronic beats with whistles and bells, over depressing lyrics about bulimia and death, Xiu Xiu brings their music to an entire new level of loathing of the human existence. Seriously, listen to this if you want to experience a happy (sad, confusing) nightmare.

With Rotation, I was expecting nothing and got quite a bit.  This was some random CD from the bin that turned out to be very good.

Major Lazer is Switch and Diplo teaming up to take over the scene and be... basically the best thing ever. Although... almost all of these tracks are the poppiest thing ever and all but a few of them belong on KRQ 93.7...

Extremely beautiful music. Baroque Rock: Ambient, experimental, slightly electronic. You might be into this if you're into the shoegazer style. This group is a real treasure, I've always been surprised they're not more popular. 5th release from an amazing group.

Play tracks 5!!!!!!!!!!, 6!!!, and 9.

1. ambient sounds and talking, not recommended for airplay.
2,4,8. slow and beautiful instrumentals.
6. same as above but the best of them. 5/5
5. this is the song that will turn you into the hugest album leaf fan. 10/5

Yes, unfortunately the Briefs are still on hiatus, and things don't look like they'll be changing anytime soon. The good news is that frontman Steve E. Nix's newest band is a fitting substitute. It should be no surprise that the Cute Lepers' second album sounds exactly how one might think the Briefs would sound if they carried on (sans the quirk factor the Briefs were known for). Regardless, they are still coming up with some of the best power-pop hooks you could ask for from a Punk band.

Once again, Flogging Molly keeps in tune with releasing an album in every even-numbered year. Although this year's release is a live album, this release coincides with the release of their first live concert DVD included with this album. Although I'm personally bummed out this isn't the full live album, all these tracks are FCC clean.
