Within the Ruins is a metalcore/rpm metal band from America best known, arguably, for their album Phenomena. Track one "Beautiful Agony" starts out pretty heavy but with your typical metalcore guitar riffs. This is a little heavier than their normal stuff and definitely has more metal in it than some of their tracks which are pretty much rpm with metal drums. This song doesn't actually have any clean vocals except towards the end but with that being said - it's not the heaviest song/vocals in the world by any means. Track 2 "Death of A Rockstar" starts out crazy fast but slowly develops into your prototypical metalcore song, which isn't bad if your into metalcore. Pretty typical metalcore guitar riffs but again the vocals get a bit heavier than most metalcore which I think is pretty cool. Track 2 "Death of a Rockstar" has a pretty tacky idea/theme but it's not a terrible song. This is labeled as both deathcore and metalcore. I'd say their earlier work is metalcore and this may be more deathcore but it still has that very clean vocal and clean guitar riff tendency of metalcore. "Objective Reality" (track 3) is definitely the most metalcore song on the album, clean vocals in the beginning with the empowering, distant vocal intro. Overall, nothing in this album is really outstanding or ear-catching. It is not an EP that will change the metal scene but if you're into deathcore/metalcore or a Within the Ruins fan, this is pretty cool.
