New Misery is the first solo album from Cullen Omori, a former member of garage psych group Smith Westerns. You can kind of hear Omori's origins in this album, as it has Smith Western's characteristic poppy psychedelic vibes, but you can also see where he branches off. It's more complex, with more layered/distorted instrumentation. The shiny melodies and muted vocals are hypnotic, and it all really draws you into a state of clean psych bliss. If you're into Smith Westerns, Connan Mockasin, Foxygen, Girls, really anything that falls into the psychedelic pop category, you'll definitely dig this album.
