KAMP Student Radio is a completely free-format college radio station entirely operated by students of the University Of Arizona. The only eligibility requirement for joining is that you are a student of the UA. No prior broadcast, journalism, or communications experience is necessary! To sign up, please fill out a "New Member Signup Form" located here. Come to our weekly meetings, held every Wednesday at 5PM in Saguaro Hall room 101 (across from Social Sciences, next to Yavapai dorm). KAMP is located in Park Student Union next to CORE. The doors are open 8AM - 5PM Monday through Friday.
After signing up, you will need to watch the videos found on this page. After you have fully watched the videos, you'll be assigned to intern on an existing show with an experienced DJ. This internship process requires you to show up once a week for about two weeks to learn how to DJ. This process is very simple and involves learning some basic equipment operations, filling out online charting forms first hand, while becoming comfortable behind the microphone. And for all you introverted music geeks out there, don't worry, being on the radio isn't nearly as stressful as you think. After your internship, you'll have to fill out a few more forms (see DJ Forms), and pay a one-time $20 fee (AKA your dues). All DJs are required to pay a participation fee once a year, NOT once every semester (yay!).
After your internship, our programming director schedules you for a show. You get to choose the time, although not all slots you pick may be available. Your show can be anything from classic rock to top 40 to indie or all of the above. That is the beauty of free-format. The only requirement is that EVERY DJ must adhere to is they MUST play a minimum of 7 songs from As or Bs. As and Bs are CDs of new music. You can mix in your own library in between, or just play the As and Bs. The only exceptions are specialty shows, sports shows, and news/talk.
Any questions about joining KAMP not addressed above can be submitted to email@example.com.
