Downtown Boys at SXSW

The Downtown Boys are angry. Angry with the inherent systems of exclusion that continuously repress people of color, queer communities, women, the impoverished. Angry that those systems are mainstream. Angry that nothing is changing. But rather than letting that anger discourage and immobilize them, the Downtown Boys grab it by the horns and channel it into action.

Andy "Marshy" Marsh with Thy Art is Murder (12/04/15)

KAMPers Andrew Trujillo and Alexis Walker sat down to talk to Andy "Marshy" Marsh from Thy Art Is Murder to talk about the IRE Tour in 2015, Blackcraft shirts, American politics, and the problems facing up and coming metal bands. If you haven't heard of these guys, listen to them. This group is amazing and they are such down to earth guys that you forget they're a big time metal band when you interact with them.

Location:
Solar Culture

This was the second time that Soren Bryce has come to Tucson to perform. Last time, we did an interview and I got press for the show. This time I was on the guest list, and I met up with a couple of other KAMPers while I was there. The concert was at a place called Solar Culture, which was a very unique art exhibit/venue. I really liked the venue because it was small enough to guarantee a lot of people near the stage, swaying to the music, but large enough not to feel too congested.

Club Congress

Both of the young, Californian surf-rock bands, The Frights and SWMRS, were full of energy and clearly ready to kick off their 2-month U.S. tour in Tucson. However, the Tuesday night crowd at Club Congress was not. It was a total bummer how half-hearted the crowd was, especially when it was obvious the bands wanted them to move around ‘n groove, going so far as to actually instruct the crowd to dance. There was a myriad of people wearing SWMRS t-shirts, but none of them seemed into their set at all.
