I caught the last two of the openers. Dam-Funk was...a DJ. He played some music and said things like "Yeah!" and "Ugh!".  Not much more to say about that. The Allah-Las were a rather pleasant throwback to the '60's psychedelic style. The music was nice enough. The kind of thing you could put on, be happy, and fall asleep to.

and then...

[...What is there to say really? How do you summarize something like this? Such a strange phenomenon... I'll start this off by stating that I missed all the opening acts except for the last handful of songs by Left Alone. They were alright. ]

There is a fun element missing from the periodic table. I am thorougly convinced it exists. I know this because there are some people whose physical beings are entirely comprised of it. Mustard Plug is a band full of these people. The half life of these creatures is roughly 3 billion years.

Black Lips w/ the Coathangers

Acts:
Black Lips
Acts:
The Coathangers
Concert Date:
Fri, 04/04/2014
Location:
Crescent Ballroom (Phoenix)

A night of racous good fun occurred at the Crescent Ballroom this fourth day of April 2014. Crowd members exited the venue into the cool desert night soaked in beer, having voids filled by rock 'n' roll. The Black Lips sure know how to have a good time and what a good time it was! Those boys from Atlanta brought some Southern loving to the desert, adn it was felt by all in attendance. As for the music the Black Lips started off the show with some crowd pleasers, and to my pleasant surprise, played a good chunk of the show from previous albums.

Why do you love hip hop so much and what does hip hop mean to you?

Well, Hip Hop culture is my life; it is a part of me since I was thirteen when I started to paint graffiti. I think is necessary for me, it is a way to forget problems and express myself. Really, I don't imagine my life without Hip Hop.

Brian talks about breaking into the film industry, shooting stunt scenes with Jimmy Wang-Yu and Sammo Hung, embracing genre while at the same time satirizing it, his new film Drive Hard (2014) staring John Cusack and Thomas Jane and the advantage one can have establishing himself as an art film director earlier in his career.
