Marshemello, Kayzo, Slushii
Concert Date:
Fri, 09/23/2016

The headliners of this year's festival, Slushii, Marshemello, and Kayzo outperformed fans expectations. Slushii dropped banger after banger, and even played one his new songs. Near the end of his set he was joined by rap legend, Tech N9ne. Tech sung one of his new hit songs, Hood Go Crazy, before quickly leaving the stage to get ready for his concert at the Rialto.

Arizona is undeniably rising as an electronic music scene. With the help of promoting companies such as Relentless Beats, the unquenchable thirst of electronic music-goers is approaching satiation. This year, Diplo, one of the keystone artists in EDM, put on his label's yearly event, Mad Decent Block Party. The Mad Decent Block Party has expanded since last year, so, as a returner, I didn't feel like the event was redundant in any way. The most substantial change that I enjoyed was the expansion from one day to two.

Tech N9ne's The Calm Before The Storm

Acts:
Staarz, JL, Krizz Kaliko
Concert Date:
Fri, 09/23/2016
Location:
Rialto Theater

Tech N9ne coming to the Rialto theatre was apparently a BIG thing. I am a casual Tech N9ne fan myself and had no idea how relevant Tech N9ne still is. Outside the show was a line that seemed to stretch a mile with fans who had been waiting for more than four hours for a front row spot. After getting in at about seven there was some time to wait before Tech. Starrz performed who is a pretty good underground rapper. He was alright and did a good job keeping the crowd's energy pulsating for the following acts to come.

Mild High Club
Acts:
Slow Moses
Acts:
Flower Festival
Concert Date:
Thu, 09/01/2016
Location:
Valley Bar

The show started out with a couple local psych bands. Flower Festival started the night off with some dreamy lofi indie pop.  Slow Moses then kept the jazzy psych pop vibes going with their set. They have gained a pretty good following around the downtown Phoenix music scene with their first album Charity Binge which came out earlier this year. Then Mild High Club came out led by Alex Brettin, the mastermind behind the project. The band is touring in support of their new album Skiptracing, out via the legendary label Stones Throw.
